Topics in Joseon Dynasty Art History

In this class, we will cover some topics within 조선시대 / Joseon Dynasty (“1392 - 1910”), exploring the art and its history. I encourage those interested in Korean culture to explore more beyond Korean dramas and Kpop (Korean pop music), more than what the “Western” perspective promotes. I want to invite people into this space for discussion on the crafts and arts created during this time period, Korea’s last dynasty before Japanese colonization (1910 - 1945) and the Korean War (1950 - “1953”). There will also be corresponding activities with some of the topics, this is the in-person portion of the class. I will provide materials but if you have your own you could use, please don’t hesitate to let me know. My goal for this is to connect people interested in Korean culture, along with the Korean diaspora at SFSU who are wanting to learn more about their cultural heritage and history.
