First year experience faculty director sought

 

The Division of Undergraduate Education and Academic Planning invites applications and nominations for the position of First Year Experience (FYE) faculty director. The position is open to a lecturer or a tenured line faculty member.  For Spring 2022, this position will be  at a .40 time base. In Spring 2022, they will be working  as  a co-director with the current FYE faculty director.  Starting in Fall 2022, it will be a 1.0 time base.   If needed for current projects, summer compensation is possible. This position reports to the dean of Undergraduate Education and Academic Planning. The term is three years (assuming continued funding). The FYE director will serve as the faculty-lead on issues, initiatives and activities related to first year students. Specific duties are listed below. FYE Faculty Director

The Division of Undergraduate Education and Academic Planning invites applications for the  First Year Experience (FYE) Faculty Director. The position will be held by a faculty of all ranks (lecturer or a tenured line faculty member). For Spring 2022, this position will be  at a .40 time base.In Spring 2022, they will be working  as  a co-director with the current FYE faculty director.   Starting in Fall 2022, it will be a 1.0 time base.  The term is three years (assuming continued funding). If needed for current projects, summer compensation is possible. The FYE Director will serve as the faculty-lead on issues, initiatives, and activities related to first year students. Specifically, the FYE director will

 

  • Co-chair the campus-wide FYE committee

    • Work with FYE committee on recommendations for the campus

  • Teach first-year experience and peer mentoring courses for All University including AU 101 First-Year Experience, AU 110 Living in San Francisco, AU 400 Peer Mentoring: First-Year Seminars

  • Lead course development related to the first-year experience including curriculum discussions on  first-year seminars (Area E courses) for All University courses including AU 101 First-Year Experience and AU 110 Living in San Francisco

  • Lead and coordinate the First-Year Experience Peer Mentor Program including recruit and training  and overseeing first-year experience peer mentors and recruiting faculty teaching Area E courses

  • Lead, collaborate and coordinate an annual First-Year Student telephone survey with Institutional Research

  • Work closely with CEETL team and faculty director on faculty development  in particular First Year Experience: Pedagogies of Inclusive Excellence (FY PIE) institute; Teaching New & Newly Returning Students and various faculty development

  • Work with CEETL faculty director  to regularly  communicate with faculty teaching 1st year courses (Golden 5) through emails and various communications about opportunities, deadlines and supports available

  • Work with the FYE Committee and CEETL on first-year faculty award

  • Lead and coordinate various faculty learning communities  including Teaching with a Peer Mentor;  and Teaching Squares focused on relevant topics relevant to faculty teaching first-year students

  • Work closely with campus wide committees including Lower-Division Certifications Committee (LDDC) on Committee on Written English Proficiency (CWEP)

  • Work with the First-Year Experience Manager on communications with first-year students including the Frosh Memo

  • Work to manage the First-Year Experience webpage housed in the DUEAP and Instagram page

  • Work closely with campus partners on first-year experience programming  and various first-year student initiatives

  • Work closely with the First-Year Experience Manager in Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, CEETL  and the First-Year Experience committee on a staff workshop, Staff Helping to Include New Experiences of Students
